Session 023 - September 22, 2025

Argynvostholt - Foyer and Wine Storage

Before Jon swung the door open, Alfbern casted Pass Without a Trace as a precaution, and then they ventured forth.

The foyer was massive and impressive, felt like a king's tomb. It had several doors, and Klildar chose the first one to explore. After the druid checked for traps, and confirmed there were none, they opened it. It revealed a wine storage room with five mouldy casks. But it also revealed an injured dusk elf, named Savid.

Klildar approached with caution, as the elf was groaning of pain from several lacerations. After assessing the injuries, the paladin healed the figure to half of his hitpoints, which stopped all the bleeding.

He then joined the group in the grand foyer and shared his story: he lives in the Vistani camp they had visited the day before, and he was out in the woods searching for Arabelle, when he came upon a group of plant-like monsters that attacked and chased him. He entered the mansion trying to recuperate from his wounds, and ended up passing out in the storage room.

In addition to that, he also shared a bit of a history of the place. It is the ancient base of operations of the Order of the Silver Dragon, an order of knights founded by Argynvost, an actual silver dragon, that came to the valley before Strahd's conquest. He wore several human guises over the years, some of them were captured as stone busts in the very same foyer.

During the conquest, Argynvostholt served as a safe haven for those that opposed Strahd, but not for too long. At some point Strahd was able to kill Argynvost, and his forces ransacked the mansion, killing all and every one of their knights and the people they were protecting.

Finally, he said that after a few years, some of those knights rose up as undead knights, filled with rage and known as revenants. Some of them roam the lands killing Strahd's minions, while others still dwell in the ruins of the mansion. He bode them farewell and left to return to the camp.

Argynvostholt - The Fireplace, the Spiders, and the Chapel

Continuing their exploration, the PCs entered a wooden-panelled room that had an old fireplace and a big wooden sarcophagus. Upon entering the room, the fireplace ignited, and the flames had the shape of a small dragon. Alfbern tried to douse the flames using Control Flames, but the figure resisted, and then spoke: My knights have fallen into darkness. Save them if you can. Show them the light they have lost! After that, it extinguished itself. The druid re-ignited the fire, but it was just ordinary now.

Investigation on the sarcophagus revealed that it had been converted into a wine cabinet, and it had several broken bottles of wines. But still Jon was able to find a wineskin with some liquid inside.

They proceeded to go to the southern most room, but right after opening the door, Alfbern could see that not only was this room was partially collapsed, it was covered in cobwebs and nine Giant Spiders were living there. He closed the door before the beasts could react.

Nope

The exploration continued into a dining room, and followed to a chapel connected to it. A pair of glass and bronze doors laid open, revealing a low fog in a poorly lit room. Once in there they recognised the place as a chapel for the Morninglord, Lathander. It had a stone altar at the end of the room, and in front of it, three armoured figures were kneeling.

Klildar decided to join the figures, not stealthly, but also not too loud. He kneeled behind them and offered some kind words, but they were in vain. The three revenants attacked them on sight, with hatred on their eyes and curses on their dead lips.

The session ended after the first round of combat.
