Session 025 - 2025-11-03
Session 025- November 11, 2025
Argynvostholt - Exploration through the windows
The party was quite intrigued by the figure on the window, which resembled the many paintings and statues in the mansion, all meant to be representations of Argynvost human forms. After a few exchanges, the PCs agreed on using Alfbern's familiar, Adelaide the raven, to peek through the many windows of the mansion.
They were able to reveal the vast majority of the rooms, with a few exceptions that had their curtains pulled. The most notorious rooms had phantasmagorical figures, a group of revenants sitting around a dining table, something being covered by a dark cloth, and a single revenant sitting on a wooden throne, who seemed like their leader, Vladimir.
Alfbern tried to talk to him using Adelaide, but the revenant wasn't willing to talk too much. He constantly insisted for her to leave, but she managed to ask the party's main plea: help against Strahd. To which Vladimir denied straight away, adding that he had already told your clan that he wouldn't help. The PCs were confused by this. What did he mean by "your clan"?
Next, they chose to check on the covered thing next to the window using Adelaide. It was sitting atop a white marble column, about one meter high, and was covered by a black cloth. Having Adelaide pull the cover with her beak, the druid saw what was beneath it, the severed head of Jon! The party was very intrigued by it, and decided to investigate it closer, before talking to Vladimir.
They soon arrived at the corner of the corridor where the head was sitting. Jon was the first one to investigate it, and it felt like a real head to the touch. Linus used detect magic and found an aura of illusion magic. When Jon tried to lift it he realised it was very heavy, which made sense, it was probably just a block of marble in reality.
While they were trying to understand why it was there, they remembered one of their early encounters in Barovia, a hanged body that materialised out of thin air which had Linus' face.
Still puzzled, they pressed on to talk to Vladimir by themselves this time.
Argynvostholt - Confrontation with Vladimir
Klildar was the first to talk to the leader of the revenants, who still asked them to leave. When pressed a bit more, he shared that he wouldn't aid anyone to kill Strahd because death won't be enough punishment. The vampire is already being punished by being trapped in Barovia forever.
Alfbern then decided to join the argument and pressed even more, and for being extremely disgusted with the undead, he made harsh arguments, which drove Vladimir over his patience. We rolled initiative!
Alfbern and Jon went before the revenant knight, causing a total of 19 damage, which didn't seem to bother him at all.
He went on telling the PCs that if they were to kill him, his spirit would eventually find another body to raise from the dead, and would relentlessly hunt them down. With a war cry he summoned six Phantom Warriors to the room, ready to attack the party.
That's where the session ended.
